Academic Updates:
It was so nice meeting many of you last week for Parent Teacher Conferences. I know the students have worked very hard this trimester. I look forward to the continued progress I’m sure we’ll all see moving into the second trimester. The past week and half have been very busy. The students learned about adverbs and did an excellent job participating in our discussions and SMARTboard activities. We also started our Information Writing Unit. The students were able to pick a topic of their choice from our classroom library book supply. We read a book that the students seemed to enjoy called The Blobfish Book by Jessica Olien. This is a nonfiction book about a sea creature that most students have never heard about. This will be one of our mentor texts throughout the unit because the author does a fantastic job adding narrative voice and humor into her writing, which will be goals of ours during writing time. We’ve also been working on our Family Totem Poles. The students are off to a great start with these! Upcoming events & Reminders:
*I hope you all enjoy your Thanksgiving and time spent with friends and family!

Academic Updates:
The students have finished their Narrative Writing pieces this week! The students worked so hard to complete their writing and create a picture to go with their memory piece. We are actually submitting our book next week to have it published into a hardcover binding for our Third Grade Family Memories. There will be forms sent out next week, if you are interested in purchasing one from the company. We’ve also finished creating our “Folktale Mobiles” where the students were able to do research from video clips, online search websites, and book resources to find out more information about the culture and geography of their country. The students learned a lot from these different experiences, and they did a nice job working together. Group projects like these are where I will input grades for ‘Transferable Skills’ in Self-Direction and Informed and Integrative Thinking. The students have worked especially hard this week to make sure to complete all assignments for the first trimester. Keep up the great work! I look forward to seeing you at our Parent Teacher conferences later next week! Upcoming events & Reminders:
Academic Updates: This week we’ve had many fun privileges and additions to our schedule. We were able to celebrate as a full school on Tuesday with pumpkin carving! The students in third grade had the job of designing and drawing what their pumpkin would look like, while the younger grades scooped out the seeds and the upper grades carved it. There was a variety of categories that they were competing to win first place for, including happiest pumpkin, most creative, and most school spirited. There was also a competition for the group that demonstrated the best teamwork. Skylar, Nick, and Gio each had a winning pumpkin/ team! Congratulations! During ELA we continued to learn about countries around the world, starting with reviewing the continents, which we memorized by singing “The Continent Song.” Feel free to ask your child/ren about it! The table groups each were to come up with “Fun Facts” for their poster/ mobile that they learned from our ‘short video clip research’ about something culturally important to their country. Their projects are coming along nicely. Writing time was filled with opinion writing pieces where the students had to convince each other that the best candy in the world is the one they chose as their favorite. The third graders did an excellent job using adjectives to explain why their choices were the best. In addition to opinion writing, their narrative pieces are on their final stages, and we will be able to create a published book with them in the near future! Upcoming events & Reminders:
Above are photos of the students reading their new dictionaries that the Windsor Lion's Club gave to the third graders! They were so excited!
